Ecological Networks
TU Darmstadt
I'm Merin, a macroecologist who loves to zoom out and explore the bigger picture of biodiversity—how it’s structured, where it’s found, and what threatens it.
My work focuses on species interactions and the so-called architecture of biodiversity, a field that has traditionally been studied at local scales. I aim to scale these interactions up in space using a metaweb perspective, linking local interaction networks into regional and biogeographic contexts.
I have studied the structure and robustness of ecological networks across a wide range of spatial and ecological scales, from individual species interactions to catchment-level and biogeographic networks, and across both aquatic and terrestrial systems. My work explores how patterns observed at small scales connect to large-scale ecosystem functioning and stability.
I am currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Ecological Networks Lab of Prof. Nico Blüthgen, working within the Biodiversity Exploratories project. My research examines how different grazing regimes shape multi-trophic biodiversity.
Interested in collaborating or to just chat about food webs, biodiversity, or network ecology? Especially if you a student looking for a thesis project, please write me; I certainly have projects we can work on together.
